The Mini Bonsai Kit (RP Minis)

I don't know why there are so many negative reviews about the size of this item and others like it. Clearly those people have never seen any of these types of items on the spindles near the check-out counter at Barnes & Noble and other booksellers. They have been around for ages and are the perfect little starter for all sorts of things. I don't have a lot of room on my desk for frivolous things, so this mini bonsai kit was perfect to add a little something to the area of my desk. That is, if the plant grows...

We couldn't get anything to grow. :(

I thought this would be a fun project for my husband and he was super excited about it but three weeks later and we still have no growth even after following all instructions.

Okay I'm very excited about my bonsai, but I have a question, it says to put the young sprout outside for a month...it was 20 degrees this morning and it will only get colder. Do I still put it outside or could I use inside lighting?

I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised by what I got. The best part of the kit is the jack pine seeds, and the instructional booklet. The booklet goes into far greater detail about the science and art of bonsai than I'd expected, and seems to give good advice on the care and shaping of a tree. I planted my pine seeds a couple of weeks ago, and the first one sprouted today, so there's at least one viable seed out of the five provided.

I bought 10 for to give out to people during the holiday season, they all seemed to be many years old, were a little dirty, and the tap keeping them closed was all peeling off and looked bad. I did not buy it for myself so im not sure if the bonsai grew, but it was not the crisp sharp clean packaging that I would want for a gift - Purchased December 2015
