XTU is a reputable brand. You can trust them

The after-sales service from XTU has been first class. I would wholeheartedly recommend this company. Our original purchase was an XTU trail camera. It worked straight out of the box. The trailcam go app was a cinch to download & use. There was also a printed manual. Then ... an eco-warrior in the family suggested swapping 8 x 1.5V dry alkaline batteries, used in the device for standby, with a solar panel instead. We bought a solar panel, choosing carefully a compatible model, and connected it up. But it never seemed to charge up the camera which eventually went flat & wouldn't charge up by any other means.Despite different time zones (XTU:China), the company was very quick to respond to our emails and was very polite & helpful in trouble- shooting, but to no avail. They graciously, & without any prompting, refunded the purchase price & offered an extended warranty on a future purchase. We then bought an XTU solar panelled trail camera, which works perfectly using our existing app and we are glad that we entrusted XTU with our first trail camera experience.

Good all round camera

The media could not be loaded. I've waited quite a while to write this review to ensure I've had a good few months use. I've had this from Summer 2024 after being a release garden for rescued hedgehogs. I wanted to keep a check on them and just to watch them. The set up is easy (and I'm not particularly good with tech). It is also easy to get the app on your phone and link the camera. This is what I really wanted from the camera so that I can view images and videos on my phone rather than on a screen on the camera itself. The quality of the images is really good both at night and in the day. It is also very easy to download the images onto your phone if you wanted to share with other people. The other added bonus of this camera in partcular is that there is no need to put any batteries in it. The solar power does work quite well and during the winter months (as there has been less activity) it has very suprisingly managed to power the camera for weeks without needed to plug it in to recharge the interal battery. The summer months however was a different matter - I did have to regularly top up the battery, maybe weekly, but there was lots of recording going on and in hindsight maybe it wasn't positioned in the best place to make the most of the sunlight.Only real issue is that you have to be quite close (approx 4ish metres) from the camera with your phone to be able to connect to it to look at the images. But it does work through windows so you don't have to go outside if it is positioned close to the house. All in all - really happy with this so much so I am contemplating purchasing another one to cover a different part of the garden.

Helpful customer support on Whats App.

I had great fun with this easy to use camera between August 2024 and 21st January 2025 and captured some lovely wildlife footage. Storm Eowyn then happened and I believe that there was water damage somewhere, though I didn't get to the bottom of it over the next few weeks. (My other camera- same make- was fine). Without much hope of a positive result, since it was outwith the Amazon returns window, I tried the customer support on Whats App. After several helpful suggestions, accompanied by photos - my customer care person Mary, agreed that the product should be replaced. Much to my surprise. The replacement arrived within the week.I'm giving this 4 stars for its initial ease of use and quality photos, prior to its breakdown, as well as my customer service experience.

Excellent camera. Be aware that files are in avi format and you may have issues with Apple products

The media could not be loaded. XTU SV-TCQSW Solar Trail CameraFirst impression was that this camera was slightly smaller than other trail cameras. As the camera is solar powered there is no need for the usual 8 AA batteries. There is space for 4 though, simply to provide backup power. When opened and powered up, the in built battery showed about half. Using the short provided USB C cable I charged the camera to full which took about 2 hours. If you move the mode switch to the centre test position/mode the display shows the camera output but also the charge state of both the internal battery and the backup batteries. Alongside the graphical display there is a small “sun” symbol and a charging “lightning flash” , both when plugged in to charging cable and when in light enough to charge. Whilst in the test mode, using the menu button you can configure the various options such as recording mode, picture and or video quality, sensitivity, recording time, audio option and so on. The instructions for setting up are clearly laid out in the enclosed user manual. I already have experience with two other brands of trail cam and the process of configuring is fairly similar (as is the layout of controls) which makes it easier to make any changes without having to resort to a manual. However once set up I have not had to make further changes. The picture and video quality at the highest quality settings are excellent both in daylight and at night. The size of files depends on the quality chosen and you will have to make your own judgement on this and its impact on the number of triggered events, the length of recordings and their quality. The 32GB micro SD card included can store several hundred 30 second video clips at the highest quality (approx 45MB per file). The camera has been positioned outside for a few days in bright sunlight, overcast weather and heavy rain. The internal battery has maintained charge and the waterproof seal seems effective. All in all this seems to be a quality product with excellent video quality. I have not used the included fixed mount or the post/tree strap, but is purely because I used an old tripod.WiFi connectivity is via the free TrailCam Go app. The connection is initiated via Bluetooth and then via a local WiFi connection generated by the camera. It does not look possible to connect to multiple cameras at the same time, although the app does store details of all the cameras you connect. I do not know if there is a limit to this. Via the app you see a summary of cameras along with a brief summary of the status and photo of view the last time you connected. Selecting a camera to view you see a fuller status screen and four icons which are self explanatory. You can connect to the camera for a live view, you can view a gallery of recordings on the card and play recordings (though I found there was some buffering). You can see an updated status screen and finally an option to remotely fine tune some key settings.Whilst in the view camera mode you can take a photo or start/stop a recording manually. These are stored locally on your device (phone/tablet) not on the card. You can also toggle the live audio on or off on your device. The only issue I have found is that the files are in .avi format. If you copy direct from card this format is NOT supported by Apple. There are apps available that are supposed to convert .avi to .mp4 for example, but all the ones I have tried fail with error. Whilst you can download via the app (and it downloads in avi) this will not be convenient if you want to copy a large number of files.
