and mine worked just fine out of the box
A little soap and water run though it, and mine worked just fine out of the box. The window is great what color and how much ink and the piston works fine. I found it to have a bad smell, but its really not bad at all and over 2 weeks its more or less vanished unless I have it near my nose. Seriously compared to my auto detailing chemicals, oil paint solvents, or my smelly family bathroom time, its a 1 out of 10 on the stink o meter! I had no issues with leaks, though I did pull the pen apart, wash everything, and grease the piston with white silicone as part of my pre-use prep.It loses a star because the flex is too stiff. I would rather see them stamp the nips out of a prepared spring steel, with half the thickness as these. Or to makes some cuts like a dip quill so it can flex more easily.

Looks good, writes great, smells awful
I have reduced this review to three stars because of the SMELL. I have been using the pen for a couple of weeks daily and the smell has not gone away. It smells like vomit and it does tranfer to your hands. It will wash off but it is gross and just not worth dealing with. This is very sad because otherwise for 12 this pen is a bargain. The piston filling mechanism works smoothly and the nib is soft and flexible to write with. It was a tiny bit scratchy at first but with some smoothing on micromesh it was fine. The pen looks and feels great and the weight is nice. i have written for a while with it with no hand fatigue. Pleasant feedback. You can feel you are writing but doesn't drag in any way. I have a soft/fine expensive pilot and this feels and writes almost as well for $12! I am really disappointed because in ALL aspects I really love this pen. I just can not get over the SMELL. If it doesn't go away I will throw the pen away which is too bad because it looks and writes great. I can not believe tha manufacturers have such a great product with such an awful smell. I have heard the Noodlers Ahab smells bad too because of the biodegradable plastic material I don't know but that is one of the reasons I have been reluctant to buy an Ahab because of the reviews about the smell. If you are sensitive to smells do not buy this pen. If smells dont bother you it looks very nice and writes beautifully I am hoping the smell will go away. If it didn't smell so bad I would get a bunch more in a heartbeat to give as gifts to friends or to my students but with the gross smell that's not going to happen. Shame for such an otherwise GREAT pen

Great for drawing...smooth.
I LOVE this pen. I use it for drawing. It draws better than some of my other more expensive pens. The only thing I wish (but isn't a big deal) is that the cap wasn't so difficult to unscrew and I wish it were a snap on lid. However, the ink capacity is amazing and the flex nib is really easy to write with, not scratchy at all. I highly recommend this pen!

Use it every day.
For me .. it is the best pen for the money. I have nicer pens..but paid a LOT of money for them. I am not sure if it is daily writer, but it is great when you want a flex nib. I find I write with it almost every day.

Hmm...won't buy again
Not much flex...maybe that will improve with usage. It doesn't hold much ink, but what bugs me the most is, because it's a demonstrator, I can see where the ink has leaked across the top of the nib, not just through the feed. So, what little ink it holds is seeping out over the top of the nib and into the cap.
