What color cartridges does this pen come with, and what brand(s) of replacement cartridges does it accept?
Does this come with a ebonite nib? Or which kind?
Do the cartridges that come with the pen contain ink or are they empty to be filled by the user?
Does the nib and ebonite feed come apart from the pen housing? If so, how do you disassemble it? I'd like to clean the nib.

Very Nice Pen, Not Quite as Flexible as Anticipated, but all good!

I have used a lot of vintage pens over the years and had a fairly extensive collection at one time. Alas, these were stolen in a burglary 7 years ago and I will not be able to replace them.I am partial to flexible nibs which is why I purchased this pen.The pen is very smart looking and the fit, finish, and machining are superb in my opinion, especially at this price point. It is really well balanced with the cap posted and writing with it is pleasant and almost effortless. The nib is just not as flexible as I anticipated. It is certainly not stiff but in my opinion I would not deem it as flexible as the description suggests. I have several Noodler's pens and I think their nibs have quite a bit more flex than this one.To be honest to get a really flexible nib, it needs to be made of gold. If you ever have an opportunity to write with an Eversharp Doric, Waterman Commando, or Sheaffer 3-25 (all with a flexible gold nib on some models) you will immediately see and feel the difference. But you're not going to get a gold nib on a $70 pen these days, that's for sure! All of that being said, it's all good. I am very pleased with this pen and will be using it a lot!

Not bad at all

Is this the best fountain pen or flex tip I've ever seen? No, not at all. But honestly for 50 dollars, this rivals with my $200 pilot flex.2 things for why it's only 4 stars tho, even if it does rival a much more expensive version of this pen, or atleast the 2 main reasons. One, it does not write as smooth. Its a very stiff tip, which is nice to know my new $50 collection pen will not just have the tip break on me in a week, but it means with the paper I use, being a little rougher and thicker than normal paper, gets a little jagged sometimes. However, definitely not the worst thing in the world. Its still capable of making smooth line and flourishes, and it's still a decent fine, but not ultra fine, nib, writing nice and tightly. And the biggest reason, is this pen railroads alot if you go to thick. Now I'm not using the wettest ink with this pen, but I will have more on the 5th-7th of October depending on shipping, and I will surely see if a much wetter ink will work. However, the wetness of this ink does not make my pilot flex railroad at all, even with this paper being a little rough. But as long as you keep a good angle, go at a good steady pace, and don't try and go to thick on your strokes, it has very little issues, and can actually flex pretty wide and keeps its shape very nicely. The feed works really well, and the flex actually gets a decent width, albeit you will have to do your own fill in, unless your like me, and actually kinda like the railroad look, but, I shouldn't get railroads using a wetter ink, because I'm not trying to get railroads. But hey, you know what, for $50, first day of usage, no other complaints. Picks right back up when left to sit on its side for a few hours, and no skipping or writing problems when just using it normally and not going for flourishes with the flex tip.Overal, if your just looking for a good fountain pen, and a decent flex tip, I'd have no problem recommending this pen. Especially since it comes with its own ink and converter (however I will not be testing the ink pods, as I don't really like using those, and much prefer using my very nice wet black ink. But it does come with two rather longer ones, so it could last about 2 weeks if your a daily writer)Oh, and this isn't really an issue, but something I notice. The whole pen gets fingerprints on it, especially the silver linings. The gloss look is really nice tho, but yeah, fingerprints galore.

Excellent Pen for the Price

This pen is really quite good; like I wrote in the photo, it's a little bit too light for my taste, so it just doesn't have a premium feel, but it is a great, comfortable size for my big hands. But as for the writing quality, you can achieve good speed and variable lineweights quite easily. It's fine-tipped bordering on medium, but it's rather flexible, nearly as flexible as fine gold nibs. It's a little scratchy (although your writing surface and style may be different). Railroading can be problematic at times but can be overcome by flushing out the ink a couple of times, and this may be more of an ink problem than a pen problem. In general, though, it's an excellent value. You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on expensive pens with rigid nibs.Included in the box were the pen with cap, two large cartridges of an unknown blue ink, and a piston-type refillable converter for using bottled ink. The cap snaps on and the nib screws off.

falls apart after daily use

I wanted to like these pens. The flex nib works well with some fine-tuning. This was my second Ambassador purchase - both failed within a few months. Both had the glue that holds the ring on fail :(

This pen does exactly what I wanted....using it to practice copperplate is addictive.

I ordered this with the ultra-flex nib to practice copperplate script exemplars conveniently on the go, when traveling or in waiting rooms, or just at home spread out on the sofa, without having to use an offset nib and dipping ink. Have been using and loving it for this purpose for about a month. Works very well with Rhodia grid paper. (I have this in a small pad that will fit in a purse.) Ordered the FPR branded black ink and use the converter rather than the supplied blue cartridges. The cap snaps on and off easily and securely. Weight is just right...not too heavy--realizing that weight can be an individual preference. The flex is very good/contrasty and fine lines are delicate. Lasts a long time without refilling. Occasionally railroads. Not a deal-breaker. Shake it, twist the cartridge, back in business. It's classy-looking, too. Happy camper here!
