Good for the Beginner Artist

Originally, I ordered this for my Wife. The only catch was that the book seems to be more geared towards someone completely new to art and sketches. That, or someone with intermediate experience, but a drawer's block. So we ended up giving the book to my Nephew. Who is just sort of getting into doodling, fun little kid type sketching, that sort of thing. In his case, the book worked out pretty well. No right or wrong, just something to actually get him to draw ANYTHING. In that respect, it's a five star book. As far as beginners, a five-star book. For someone with moderate experience at drawing, I'd probably say four stars. So as long as you know the audience for this book, it's sort of a must-get.

Helps cure artistic block

My daughter is very much into art. Thing with art, it can't be rushed, it can't be forced, though it can be encouraged. To that end I'm very pleased with this book as a method to encourage art through a very simple method.Draw every day.Sure, inspiration isn't uniform and some days are more productive than others, but for those days where inspiration lags then this book sure does help. It uses a series of very open ended ideas as a way to stimulate thinking and get something on paper. For instance, one had something like "draw an awkward embrace." That can be read several different ways, with the artist's interpretation naturally being brought to the fore.I think this book works on a level beyond that though...it also serves as a guide for the artist to broaden his/her scope and perhaps find inspiration in heretofore unnoticed things or ideas. By serving up examples of what can motivate a creative spark, at the end of the book one cannot help but find those sparks on one's own.A very good book, very helpful in both the theoretical and practical sense, and very much aimed for artists or just plain creative types to get out of any ruts they may be in. Fantastic.

Very enjoyable

"One Drawing a Day: A Creative Workbook for the Artist in You" by Nadia Hayes is literally an art prompt with space to draw. I love it. I'm not an artist. I'm not even particularly good at doodling but I do find taking time out to do some drawing to be stress relieving for some reason. The book has no dates so it isn't like "365 days of drawing" kind of thing and there's no instruction on how to draw. There's merely a prompt and a space to draw on the page. You can do a drawing a day or a bunch in a day or skip the work week and do a few on the weekends or just pull it out and do a drawing when you feel like it. I'm in that last group.I think the simplicity of it is what makes it attractive for me. I can be good or bad or just surprised by what appears in the space. I love it.

A Creative Workbook

This book is sort of a diary/journal/sketchbook all in one. Each page has a square with a suggestion of what to draw on that page.Use with a graphite or colored pencil. This would make a great gift for a person who likes to sketch.

One Drawing A Day

What a fun concept! Practice makes perfect and if you have something that gives you a reason to practice every day, it helps you develop your skills. And at least for me, when drawing, I don't always have an idea, so having pre-done prompts for what to draw is super helpful.I've actually been sharing this book with my significant other. While we're not good about doing it every day, we go in occasionally and draw a picture and then initial and date it. And then when we're drawing we'll flip through to get a laugh out of what each other has done. We've had such gems as a crazy chicken and what you see in your rearview mirror.Definitely a great couples activity or it would be good for an older kid. Some of the drawing areas are quite small so I don't think younger kids would be able to refine their drawing to the allotted space. I can't really find any fault with the book beyond wishing it was spiral bound to lie the pages flatter.Review by M. Reynard 2019

Great for inspiration

Love it! I like to draw but struggle to know what I want to create. I really enjoy being able to pick a section and work on it.
